Abstract

|
Three cases of torticollis were surgically treated, two of them developed rotated attitude of the head, brought about by clonic or tonic contraction of the cervical muscles and other congenital hypertrophy of sternocleidomastoid muscles.
The diagnostic myelogram for cervical spine showed no filling defect in the cervical subarachnoid space. In the two cases, in which cases total laminectomy was performed throught Cl-C3 and anterior rhizotomy of the first three cervical segments bilaterally plus unilateral intradural section of the eleventh cranial nerve at C1 level were successfully performed. In other case, myotomies of the sternocleidomastoid muscles was done.
Post-operatively there was improvement of rotated attitude of the head and has not shown any worsening in neurological status until this paper submitted.
